07:06 AM EDT, 03/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity markets were tracking in the green before the open Wednesday, as traders prepare to gauge the Federal Reserve's monetary policy path with expected comments from a central bank official later in the day.
Standard & Poor's 500 futures, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq were all up 0.4% each in premarket trading. Asian exchanges were mixed to lower, while European bourses were heading south.
Fed Governor Christopher Waller is scheduled to speak at 6 pm ET. February's personal income and outlays report is due to be released on Friday, when US markets will remain closed for the Good Friday holiday. The income report includes the personal consumption expenditure core price index, which is the Fed's preferred inflation metric.
Also on Wednesday's economic calendar, the weekly mortgage applications bulletin is out at 7 am, followed by the weekly domestic petroleum inventories report at 10:30 am. The Atlanta Fed Survey of Business Uncertainty for March posts at 11 am.
GameStop (GME) shares tumbled 19% pre-bell as the video game retailer's fiscal fourth-quarter revenue declined on an annual basis. Robinhood Markets (HOOD) gained 7.1% as the financial services company launched a new credit card for US consumers. Krispy Kreme's (DNUT) stock rose 4.4% having jumped nearly 40% at the close of Tuesday's session.
Cintas (CTAS), Carnival (CCL, CUK) and Unifirst (UNF) report their latest financial results before the bell, among others. Jefferies Financial Group (JEF), RH (RH), H. B. Fuller (FUL) and Sprinklr (CXM) post earnings in the afterhours.
In premarket action, bitcoin increased 0.5% to $70,108, West Texas Intermediate crude dipped 0.7% to $81.02 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries inched 0.4 basis points higher to 4.24% and gold inclined 0.6% to $2,213 an ounce.
