12:55 PM EDT, 03/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- 23andMe (ME) customers were asked by New York Attorney General Letitia James to take action for protection of their data as the company goes through bankruptcy, the state prosecutor's office said in a consumer alert Tuesday.
The genetic testing company, known for analyzing DNA to provide ancestry and health information, filed for bankruptcy Monday and intends to sell its assets. James reminded New Yorker residents that they can request for removal of their personal data and destruction of any stored DNA samples.
James also provided a guide on how to delete personal information, destroy stored DNA samples, and withdraw research consent, according to the consumer alert.
23andMe didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
