12:16 PM EDT, 06/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- 23andMe (ME) is facing a probe by the UK and Canadian regulators over a data breach in October 2023 that could have exposed the personal information of its customers.
The UK's Information Commissioner's Office said Monday that it launched the joint investigation with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The probe aims to assess the scope of leaked information, its potential impact on the affected people, and whether 23andMe had enough data protection measures and complied with data protection laws in notifying the authorities, the regulator added.
23andMe did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. Its shares were down 3% in recent trading.
