3M, DuPont Are Among Companies Facing Connecticut Firefighters' Lawsuit
Jun 26, 2024 11:08 AM

01:59 PM EDT, 06/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- 3M ( MMM ) , DuPont ( DD ) , Honeywell International ( HON ) and 16 other defendants face a class action lawsuit filed Tuesday by Connecticut firefighters over alleged contamination by toxic "forever chemicals" in protective equipment.

The lawsuit filed in a federal district court in Connecticut alleges that the companies' gear contained per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, exposed firefighters to cancer risks.

The plaintiffs, including the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut, five other unions and five firefighters, claim the PFAS from the gear affected them through skin contact, ingestion, and inhalation.

They are seeking damages exceeding $5 million for violations of Connecticut product liability law, accusing the defendants failed to adequately warn about the health risks associated with PFAS.

3M ( MMM ), DuPont ( DD ), Honeywell ( HON ) and Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
