July 18 (Reuters) - 3M's ( MMM ) Cynthiana facility
received a subpoena in May seeking information about PFAS and
alleged hazardous substances used or released at the site, the
company's quarterly report on Friday showed.
The notice from the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet
also directed the company to develop a plan to investigate
suspected release of the so-called "forever chemicals" at the
plant.
3M ( MMM ) has been battling suits accusing contamination from per-
and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, which is found in
hundreds of consumer and commercial products, including
cosmetics, non-stick pans and stain-resistant clothing.
They have been linked to negative health effects such as
high cholesterol, low birth weights, reduced antibody response
to vaccines as well as kidney and testicular cancers.
The company had announced in 2022 that it would exit all
PFAS manufacturing by the end of 2025.
