03:54 PM EDT, 05/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- CVS Health ( CVS ) confirmed in a statement to MT Newswires that pharmacists at two of its outlets in Wakefield and Westerly, Rhode Island, voted to join a national union, the Pharmacy Guild.
Thursday's vote involved nine pharmacists across the two Rhode Island stores, a CVS spokesperson told MT Newswires. Providing more context on unionization of staff, the spokesperson said the company has "roughly [30,000] pharmacists across the company, and of those roughly 700 pharmacists are unionized."
"This is the first of several steps in the collective bargaining process," the spokesperson added. "If the vote results are confirmed by the [National Labor Relations Board], we'll negotiate in good faith with the union to try to reach an agreement."
This latest update comes a few weeks after a CVS Omnicare pharmacy in Las Vegas joined the union.
Pharmacy Guild did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
