AAI airports to ask Jet Airways to vacate office space at terminals
May 1, 2019 10:40 AM

Temporarily suspended carrier Jet Airways will soon be asked to vacate the office space occupied by the airline at the terminals of all AAI airports, sources close to the development told CNBC-TV18.

Airport Authority of India, which manages around 125 airports in the country, is learnt to have asked all its airports to get the space vacated as soon as possible and submit progress reports on the same by May 2, sources added.

"Of the 125 airports, the airline is likely to have occupied office space at nearly 35-40 airports. The airports will stop billing Jet Airways once they vacate their offices. It is a waste of an asset. Their articles can be kept at the premises and as and when, they resume operations, they can take that space back," one of the people aware of the development said.

It is important to note here that the majority of airports owned and managed by AAI are running in losses.

As per a written reply by the civil aviation ministry to the Parliament, nearly 94 aerodromes suffered losses in the last financial year ended March 2018.
