09:00 AM EDT, 06/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Abbott Laboratories ( ABT ) said Monday that Health Canada has approved its i-STAT train brain injury whole blood test cartridge to assess suspected concussion at the patient's bedside and obtain results in 15 minutes.
Tests previously used to help assess mild traumatic brain injury were only authorized for use with plasma or serum that had to be sent to labs for processing.
The authorization will allow tests to be performed outside hospital emergency departments, including potentially at pharmacies, the company said.
With the authorization, the portable test cartridge can be used on patients 18 years or older up to 24 hours after injury, the company said.
