04:48 PM EDT, 08/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Adeia ( ADEA ) said Monday that the Canadian Federal Court of Appeal upheld a lower court's ruling that found its patents invalid in cases against Videotron and Bell.

However, the court found the lower court erred in the analysis relating to royalty-based damages, accounting of profits and injunctions, according to Adeia ( ADEA ). This will benefit the company in its licensing efforts in Canada, and in the second phase of cases against Videotron and Bell, scheduled for trial in 2025.

Videotron said separately that it welcomes the appeal court's ruling that upholds the invalidity of Adeia's ( ADEA ) patents.

Bell did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
