AEP Ohio, Partners Report New Energy Infrastructure Plan in Appalachian Ohio

12:17 PM EDT, 03/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- American Electric Power's ( AEP ) AEP Ohio, the US Department of Energy and SB Energy said Friday they plan multi-billion-dollar investments in digital and energy infrastructure to support data center growth and economic development in Appalachian Ohio.

The investments will include a 765-kilovolt electric transmission infrastructure for a data center in Piketon, Ohio, according to the release. A 10-gigawatt data center campus is planned for the site.

SB Energy will invest $4.2 billion in new transmission to help avoid increases to transmission rates for Ohio residents, they said. AEP Ohio expects power to begin flowing to the site in 2029.
