Analysts polled by Capital IQ expected $1.58.

Total revenue for the quarter ended March 31 was $5.44 billion, up from $4.8 billion a year earlier.

Analysts expected $4.3 billion.

The property and casualty insurance company also kept quarterly dividend at $0.50 per share, payable June 3 to shareholders of record on May 22.
