07:53 AM EST, 12/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Agios Pharmaceuticals ( AGIO ) said Wednesday that the European Commission has granted orphan medicinal product designation to mitapivat, its oral small-molecule PK activator, for treating sickle cell disease.

The company said it plans to share results of its phase 3 study assessing the efficacy and safety of mitapivat in late 2025.
