Air India Boeing 787 Reportedly Crashes Shortly After Take-Off From Ahmedabad

05:43 AM EDT, 06/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- A Boeing ( BA ) 787 plane operated by Air India crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, en route London's Gatwick airport, news outlets reported Thursday.

Flight AI171 was carrying 242 passengers and crew, reported the ANI news agency, citing the Gujarat State Police Control Room.

News outlets cited social media videos showing black smoke rising from the presumed crash site and photos of rescue workers at the site.

Boeing ( BA ) and Air India did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.

Boeing ( BA ) shares were down 7% in recent premarket activity.
