03:11 PM EDT, 04/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Airbus Chief Financial Officer Thomas Toepfer said Wednesday on an earnings call that US-based airlines that import its airplanes will have to pay the additional cost of tariffs.
"So it's the importer that has to pay the import duties," he said, according to a FactSet transcript. "And when we are the importer, meaning, for instance, we're operating in Mobile, Alabama, where we have our [assembly plant], we're importing from Europe ... we have to pay the tariffs on what we are importing and then we sell from Mobile to our customers."
"However, when we are exporting from Europe to the US, that's an import for the customers. And they're also not very much willing to pay tariffs, but it's on them," Toepfer said.
Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) , American Airlines ( AAL ) , United Airlines (UAL), JetBlue Airways ( JBLU ) and Frontier Group ( ULCC ) did not immediately reply to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
