04:03 AM EDT, 08/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alcoa's ( AA ) Alcoa ( AA ) of Australia unit said Monday it has signed a joint development agreement with Japan Australia Gallium Associates to study the feasibility of a gallium project at one of the unit's operating alumina refineries in Western Australia.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The partners are planning a final investment decision by the end of this year and to start production in 2026, Alcoa ( AA ) of Australia said, adding that its participation in the agreement is not anticipated to have a material impact on its parent's financial position.

Japan Australia Gallium Associates is a joint venture between Sojitz Corp. and Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security.
