Alcon to Acquire STAAR Surgical for $1.5 Billion

04:02 AM EDT, 08/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alcon ( ALC ) plans to acquire STAAR Surgical ( STAA ) , including its EVO lens line for correcting certain patients with moderate to high myopia, in a $1.5 billion all-cash deal, the companies said Tuesday.

Under the agreement, the companies said Alcon ( ALC ) will purchase all outstanding shares of STAAR for $28 per share in cash.

Alcon ( ALC ) will finance the purchase through short- and long-term credit facilities, the companies said, adding the deal is expected to close within six to 12 months and become accretive to earnings by the second year.
