08:30 AM EDT, 06/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) suffered a setback after the European Court of Justice's advocate general recommended that the court dismiss the tech giant's appeal to overturn an antitrust fine of 4.12 billion euros ($4.75 billion), the Court of Justice said Thursday.
Advocate General Juliane Kokott proposed that the court confirm the fine set by the General Court in 2018 and reduced in 2022, saying the legal arguments presented by Google ( GOOG ) were "ineffective."
The advocate general's opinion is not binding on the court, but judges mostly tend to follow such opinions, multiple news outlets reported.
Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
