09:08 AM EDT, 04/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) said Wednesday it has launched its seventh-generation tensor processing unit Ironwood, designed to power the "most demanding" artificial intelligence workloads.
The tech giant said Ironwood is the first chip designed specifically for "inference," where an AI model proactively applies its understanding to generate insights and answers.
Ironwood will be able to work in groups of as many as 9,216 chips. It has 6 times the high bandwidth memory capacity of Google's ( GOOG ) sixth-generation unit Trillium, which enables the processing of larger models and datasets, as well as 2 times the power efficiency of Trillium, delivering more capacity per watt, the company said.
Ironwood will be available later this year, Google ( GOOG ) said.
