12:52 PM EDT, 04/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL), Meta Platforms ( META ) have been named in a lawsuit accusing Perplexity AI of illegally sharing the conversations of users of Perplexity's search engine, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The proposed class-action complaint, filed by Utah man identified as John Doe, alleges that trackers are downloaded on Perplexity users' devices, giving Google ( GOOG ) and Meta access to conversations made on Perplexity's AI Machine search engine.
According to the lawsuit, Meta and Google ( GOOG ) used the personal information and conversations they received from the trackers to sell targeted advertising to other third parties.
When contacted for comment, a Perplexity spokesperson said, "We have not been served any lawsuit that matches this description so we are unable to verify its existence or claims."
Google ( GOOG ) and Meta did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for Northern District of California, San Francisco Division.
