Alphabet's Google Proposes New Changes to European Search Results Under DMA
Nov 26, 2024 4:14 AM

06:53 AM EST, 11/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG/GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) has proposed updates to its European search results in response to complaints from smaller businesses about traffic declines.

The company said small businesses such as airlines, hotel operators, and small retailers have reported a 30% decrease in free direct booking clicks since the changes were implemented.

Google ( GOOG ) said its proposed changes include larger units for comparison sites and supplier websites, improved ad formats, and new layouts that display prices and images.

Google ( GOOG ) would also test removing hotel location maps and related results in Germany, Belgium, and Estonia to determine user interest.

The company said the changes would help address concerns while remaining compliant with the EU's Digital Markets Act, which prohibits favoring Google's ( GOOG ) services.
