08:51 AM EDT, 09/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) unit Google ( GOOG ) will provide Volkswagen with generative AI capabilities to run a virtual assistant in a smartphone app for drivers, the companies said Tuesday.

The myVW app's AI features are based on Google Cloud's Gemini large language models and can answer drivers' vehicle- and traffic-related questions, the companies said.

The virtual assistant in myVW is now available to all MY24 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicle owners, Volkswagen said in a separate statement. Owners of certain MY20 models and newer Volkswagen vehicles will be able to use the virtual assistant starting next year, the automaker said.

Financial details of the collaboration were not disclosed.
