Alphabet's Google to Appeal Search Antitrust Ruling
Jun 2, 2025 5:46 AM

08:18 AM EDT, 06/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) said Saturday that it would appeal an antitrust decision by Judge Amit Mehta, who is mulling options on how to limit the tech giant's monopoly in search.

"We will wait for the Court's opinion. And we still strongly believe the Court's original decision was wrong, and look forward to our eventual appeal," the company said in a post on X.

Mehta heard the closing arguments on Friday at a trial from the company and the US Department of Justice about proposals on how to tackle Google's ( GOOG ) illegal monopoly in online search and related advertising, Reuters reported on Monday.

The proposed remedies of the department "go miles beyond the Court's decision and would harm consumers, businesses and America's tech leadership," the company said in the post.

US District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia, in April ruled that Google ( GOOG ) illegally dominates two markets for online advertising technology, Reuters reported.
