08:06 AM EDT, 05/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) said on Thursday that it plans to invest $2 billion in Malaysia to develop its first data center and Google Cloud region in the country.
Google ( GOOG ) said that its data center will power services including Search, Maps and Workspace, and help deliver AI services, while the cloud center will offer services to enterprises, startups, and public sector organizations.
The company has also launched two programs to foster AI literacy for both students and educators, in order to make digital skills more accessible to Malaysians.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in a post on X that he expects the investment to help accelerate the country's digital transformation and create 26,500 jobs by 2030.
