Alphabet's Google to Pay $1.38 Billion in Texas Privacy Settlement
May 26, 2025 5:40 AM

05:45 AM EDT, 05/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) will pay $1.38 billion in a settlement in principle with the state of Texas for violation of consumer data privacy and security rights, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's office said Friday.

The settlement stems from a 2022 lawsuit Paxton filed against Google ( GOOG ), accusing the tech giant of unlawfully collecting and tracking users' private data, including geolocation, incognito browsing activity, and biometric identifiers, without proper user consent.

"To date, no state has attained a settlement against Google ( GOOG ) for similar data-privacy violations greater than $93 million," Paxton's office said.

Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
