08:50 AM EST, 01/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) signed a deal to buy carbon credits from Varaha, an Indian company that turns agricultural waste into biochar, a substance that helps remove CO2 from the atmosphere and enriches the soil, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.
The reports said that Varaha will collect waste from small farms across India, convert it into biochar, and supply it as a fertilizer alternative.
Google ( GOOG ) will purchase 100,000 tons of carbon credits from the project until 2030, according to the reports.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
