Alphabet's Google Under Scrutiny by Italian Regulator Over User Consent Agreement
Jul 18, 2024 5:53 AM

08:26 AM EDT, 07/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and its Google ( GOOG ) subsidiary are facing an investigation by the Italian Competition Authority over concerns that the company's user consent agreement "may constitute misleading and aggressive commercial practice," the regulator said Thursday.

According to the regulator, the consent agreement "appears to be accompanied by inadequate, incomplete and misleading information" regarding the company's use of personal information, potentially leading them to believe that they must give up some personal information in exchange for services.

The Italian authority also alleged that Google ( GOOG ) uses methods for requestion consent which could "condition the freedom of choice of the average consumer."

Alphabet did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
