12:00 PM EST, 11/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) self-driving unit Waymo said Wednesday it has begun offering public robotaxi rides on freeways in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and Phoenix, extending its autonomous ride-hailing network to faster routes.

The company said freeway trips will gradually become available to more riders and locations and that it plans to expand the capability to Austin, Atlanta, and other cities.

Waymo also expanded its Bay Area service to cover the full Peninsula from San Francisco to San Jose, including curbside pickup and drop-off at San Jose Mineta International Airport.

The company said the freeway rollout builds on millions of test miles on highways in multiple cities and collaboration with safety officials.
