Flipkart, whose Big Billion Days (TBBD) sale kicked off over the weekend, says it saw over 91 million customer visits and a 7X spike in orders over daily transactions.

Early trends, Flipkart said, indicate a buoyant customer sentiment overall, with categories such as mobiles, appliances, lifestyle, BGM (Beauty and General Merchandise), electronics, and home witnessing the highest demand among customers.
This data includes Plus Premium and VIP customers during early access and Day 1 of the sale.
Amazon, on the other hand, which kicked off its Great India Festival, said the 48 hours of the Great Indian Festival 2023 saw the highest visits, transactions, and orders from customers with 9.5 crore customer visits.
SMARTPHONES & ELECTRONICS
Amazon says Prime members bought 75+ smartphones per second in the opening hour on October 7.
OnePlus, Samsung, and Apple saw the most orders on Amazon with more than 100 OnePlus smartphones being bought every minute in the first 48 hours for the sale, while Samsung drove premium phone demand.

75% of the smartphones sold were purchased by customers coming from tier 2 -3 cities/towns and beyond, Amazon said, adding that premium smartphones (> Rs 30,000), witnessed 3x growth versus last year, driven by easy affordability options such as no-cost EMI and attractive exchange offers.
For Flipkart, smartphones in the Rs 20k+ segment witnessed a surge in demand among Metro and Tier 2+ audiences.
Amazon added that over 1.2 lakh customers bought their first appliance on Amazon during the first 48 hours and more than one appliance was bought by customers every second with almost half buying a premium appliance.
Amazon also saw one TV per second being sold with 80% of all orders coming from Tier 2 and 3 cities/towns.
In terms of categories overall for Flipkart, mobiles, appliances, lifestyle, BGM (Beauty and General Merchandise), electronics, and home-led sales with over 60% of orders coming from Tier 1, 2, and 3 cities.
"Lifestyle sellers on the marketplace experienced a 10X growth in the orders placed compared to the pre-festive period, followed by Furniture and Electronics with 8X and 7X growth respectively," Flipkart said in a statement.

For Amazon, fashion witnessed over 5X growth, D2C brands saw 10X more demand, while beauty saw 6X growth from makeup and premium beauty brands.
"We saw 2X growth in fashion jewelry, 3.5X in beauty essentials, 10X growth in sarees under 199, 6X growth in polo t-shirts under 299, and 6X growth in sports shoes," Amazon said in a statement.
PREMIUMISATION
The premiumisation trend also was seen, as indicated by Redseer in the run-up to the sales. Flipkart says products related to grooming, food and nutrition, make-up, and fragrances, saw a heightened demand during Early Access and Day 1 of The Big Billion Days.
Amazon says customers in its platform shopped for 35% more premium smartwatches in the first 48 hours as compared to last year, while 10 Premium active noise cancelling headphones were bought by customers every minute.

In terms of geographies, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Hyderabad saw the highest number of shoppers for Flipkart, followed by Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, and Gurgaon.
Interestingly, Hisar, Lucknow, and Patna were also among the top cities that saw a surge in orders placed by festive shoppers on Flipkart.
