Amazon Piloting Package Delivery via Tram in Germany

12:32 PM EDT, 09/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) said Tuesday it is piloting a project in Germany to deliver packages through a tram, with the last mile deliveries done through electric cargo bikes to ensure zero tailpipe emissions.

Under the Gutertram project, Amazon ( AMZN ) said packages are carried by electric vans from the company's delivery station to the tram stop and transported via tram to the center of Frankfurt, from where electric cargo bikes will bring the packages to the customers.

Amazon ( AMZN ) said the project is part of a research project of Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, along with VGF and the company's Intermodal City Injections program.
