01:26 PM EDT, 08/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) will once again face monopoly claims after a Washington, D.C., appeals court on Thursday revived the district's antitrust lawsuit against the e-commerce giant.
The 2021 lawsuit alleged that Amazon ( AMZN ) used its market position to prevent third-party sellers from listing their products on other platforms at lower prices or better terms, accusations the company denied.
The lawsuit was tossed out in 2022 after a trial court said the legal filing did not establish the anticompetitive effect of the company's actions. But, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals said the court set too high a bar to dismiss the case, and the allegations meet the bar for the lawsuit to proceed.
Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson Tim Doyle told MT Newswires the company disagrees with the allegations. "Just like any store owner who wouldn't want to promote a bad deal to their customers, we don't highlight or promote offers that are not competitively priced," Doyle said in an emailed response.
Bloomberg earlier reported the story.
