Amazon to Face September Trial as FTC Backtrack on Delay Request Over Resource Shortages
Mar 13, 2025 4:52 AM

07:41 AM EDT, 03/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon ( AMZN ) will go to trial in September as scheduled after the US Federal Trade Commission reversed an earlier statement suggesting a delay due to resource shortages, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

FTC attorney Jonathan Cohen said that he was wrong about the lack of resources in a statement addressed to US District Judge John Chun in Seattle, and the Commission is fully prepared to proceed with the case, which accuses Amazon ( AMZN ) of using 'dark patterns' to deceive consumers into signing up for automatically renewing Prime subscriptions, according to multiple media reports

Reuters reported that the FTC claims the case involves at least $1 billion in damages and has named several Amazon ( AMZN ) executives as defendants, though Amazon ( AMZN ) denies any wrongdoing.

Despite earlier concerns over resources, FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson reaffirmed the agency's commitment to the case, reports said.

Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
