Amazon Tops Second-Quarter Views Amid Cloud Computing Revenue Boost
Jul 31, 2025 2:10 PM

04:55 PM EDT, 07/31/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon ( AMZN ) late Thursday reported stronger-than-expected second-quarter results as revenue within its cloud computing division rose above Wall Street's estimates.

The e-commerce giant's per-share earnings jumped to $1.68 for the three months through June from $1.26 a year earlier, topping the FactSet-polled GAAP consensus of $1.34. Sales increased 13% year-over-year to $167.7 billion, higher than the Street's $162.19 billion view.

Sales at the Amazon Web Services cloud computing division rose 17.5% annually to $30.87 billion, compared with market expectations of $30.82 billion.

Advertising services revenue advanced 23% to $15.69 billion, while subscription services increased 12%.

Consolidated North American sales climbed 11%, while international operations gained 16%.

Wedbush analysts Scott Devitt, Daniel Ives and Matthew Weiss said in a note to clients before Amazon's ( AMZN ) earnings were released that the risk-reward on the company is attractive despite concerns about depressed profitability forecasts, tariff and currency risks and rising costs to support AI projects.

"Investor sentiment is broadly positive, with expectations improving in recent weeks following a disappointing 2Q guide that was delivered in early May," the analysts said.

Amazon ( AMZN ) expects third-quarter revenue of $174 billion and $179.5 billion, reflecting annual growth of 10% to 13%. Analysts are looking for $173.27 billion.

Operating income is pegged between $15.5 billion and $20.5 billion in the third quarter, versus analysts' $19.49 billion view. The metric increased to $19.17 billion in the June quarter from $14.67 billion in the year-ago period.

Shares were down 3% in after-hours trading.
