01:59 PM EDT, 09/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) will return to its pre-COVID work environment with workers expected to be in the office every day except for extenuating circumstances, effective Jan. 2, Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy said Monday in a note to employees.
"Before the pandemic, not everybody was in the office five days a week, every week," Jassy said. "If you or your child were sick, if you had some sort of house emergency, if you were on the road seeing customers or partners, if you needed a day or two to finish coding in a more isolated environment, people would work remotely.
"But, before the pandemic, it was not a given that folks could work remotely two days a week, and that will also be true moving forward -- our expectation is that people will be in the office outside of extenuating circumstances," Jassy said.
Amazon ( AMZN ) will also return assigned seating assignments in locations that were previously arranged that way, including Puget Sound, Washington, and Arlington, Virginia.
