08:36 AM EDT, 10/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) cloud platform, Amazon Web Services, reported a major outage early Monday, disrupting the operations of companies, websites and apps including airlines, social media and telecommunications.
AWS said it's seen significant and increased error rates for multiple services in the eastern US due to an "operational issue," according to an update on its health dashboard. The cloud services platform investigated and found the problem to be "related to DNS resolution of the DynamoDB API endpoint."
The platform later said the underlying DNS issue had been "fully mitigated" and most service operations were "succeeding normally." It added that it was "continuing to work towards full recovery."
Meta Platforms' ( META ) Facebook and WhatsApp, Walt Disney's ( DIS ) Disney+, Snap's (SNAP) Snapchat, the McDonald's (MCD) app, Reddit ( RDDT ) , United Airlines (UAL), AT&T ( T ) , T-Mobile US ( TMUS ) , Roblox ( RBLX ) and Vodafone ( VOD ) were some of the major companies impacted by the outage, according to Downdetector, which tracks online outages.
"User reports indicate issues at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the US-East-1 region," Downdetector said on its website. "These problems are impacting multiple services that depend on Amazon Web Services infrastructure."
Shares of e-commerce and technology giant Amazon ( AMZN ) were down 0.2% in the most recent premarket activity.
In July 2024, cybersecurity technology company Crowdstrike ( CRWD ) rolled out a faulty systems update for its Falcon sensors on Microsoft ( MSFT ) Windows systems, causing a global tech outage that impacted several industries, including airlines, broadcasters and the banking and health care systems.
