06:48 AM EST, 11/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon ( AMZN ) Web Services and Telefonica Germany are testing the use of quantum technologies in the telecom operator's mobile network, Reuters reported Friday, citing executives at the two companies.

The companies will try to use the powerful quantum computers to fine tune the placement of mobile towers, encrypt communications, and make progress on 6G networks, Reuters reported the executives as saying.

"If you wait until quantum computing is there, it's too late," Reuters cited Antia Lamas-Linares, a scientist at Amazon Web Services, as saying. "You really have to start working now with the prototypes."
