Amazon-backed Anthropic Introduces AI Capability to Perform Complex Computer Tasks
Oct 22, 2024 12:34 PM

12:16 PM EDT, 10/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon ( AMZN ) -backed artificial intelligence startup Anthropic said Tuesday that it has introduced a capability in public beta form called Computer Use.

Computer Use is now available on the application programming interface allowing developers to direct Anthropic's Claude chatbot software "to use computers the way people do -- by looking at a screen, moving a cursor, clicking buttons, and typing text," the company said.

The goal is to enable developers to use this capability to automate repetitive processes, develop and test software, and carry out open-ended tasks like research, the company said, adding that they have come up with new classifiers to identify when the capability is being used and whether harm is occurring.

"We're releasing computer use early for feedback from developers, and expect the capability to improve rapidly over time," as it is currently in an experimental phase, the company said.

The company also launched an upgraded version of Claude 3.5 Sonnet and introduced a new model, dubbed Claude 3.5 Haiku, which will be released later this month.
