03:24 PM EDT, 10/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) is developing augmented-reality glasses for its contract delivery drivers, aiming to make doorstep drop-offs faster and more accurate.
The smart glasses "leverage AI-powered sensing capabilities and computer vision, along with cameras to create a heads-up display that includes everything from navigation details to hazards to delivery tasks," Amazon ( AMZN ) said Wednesday in a statement.
The glasses help "scan packages, follow turn-by-turn walking directions, and capture proof of delivery," all without the use of a mobile phone, the company said. "The glasses create a hands-free experience, reducing the need to look between the phone, the package, and the surrounding area."
Trials have begun with drivers in North America, and Amazon ( AMZN ) plans to refine the technology before considering a broader rollout, Bloomberg reported.
Known internally as Amelia, the glasses feature a small screen for navigation, package scanning, and delivery photos, potentially replacing handheld GPS units and guiding drivers through tricky routes or away from aggressive dogs, Reuters reported.
Amazon ( AMZN ) announced the development at a press conference at a warehouse south of San Francisco, Bloomberg reported.
Additionally, Amazon ( AMZN ) introduced Blue Jay, a robotic package-handling system, and Eluna, an AI-driven tool designed to assist warehouse managers. The technologies "reduce repetitive tasks, improve safety, and boost productivity, while speeding up delivery," the company said in a statement.
