Around 1,400 Amazon ( AMZN ) workers went on strike Tuesday over a dispute in pay and union recognition, according to media reports, citing the union.
The workers will continue to go on strike on Wednesday. The strike dates follow an application by the union members for mandatory recognition at Amazon ( AMZN ) to the Central Arbitration Committee, the union told MT Newswires.
"We regularly review our pay to ensure we offer competitive wages and benefits," an Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires.
The company is set to raise the minimum starting pay to between 12.30 British pounds ($15.64) and 13 pounds per hour by April, depending on location, the spokesperson said.
