Amazon.com's Amazon Web Services Unit Cuts Hundreds of Sales, Marketing, Physical Stores Technology Jobs
Apr 3, 2024 11:52 AM

02:38 PM EDT, 04/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Amazon Web Services cloud-computing unit said Wednesday it is eliminating hundreds of jobs in its sales and marketing and physical stores technology teams.

An AWS spokesperson told MT Newswires the job cuts in the company's Sales, Marketing, and Global Services division are mostly related to business changes affecting training and sales operations and some to the need to streamline in order to re-invest in its business priorities.

In the Physical Stores Technology team, the spokesperson said the layoffs are due to "a broader strategic shift in the use of some applications in Amazon's ( AMZN ) owned as well as in third-party stores."

"We've identified a few targeted areas of the organization we need to streamline in order to continue focusing our efforts on the key strategic areas that we believe will deliver maximum impact," the spokesperson said. "These decisions are difficult but necessary as we continue to invest, hire, and optimize resources to deliver innovation for our customers."

The job cuts were first reported by Geekwire.

Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) shares were 1.1% higher in recent trading.
