American Airlines Sues JetBlue Airways for Damages Over Northeast Alliance Breakup
May 25, 2025 8:36 PM

05:47 AM EDT, 04/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- American Airlines ( AAL ) said Monday that it sued JetBlue Airways ( JBLU ) to seek damages after the unwinding of the Northeast Alliance.

Steve Johnson, American Airlines ( AAL ) vice chair and chief strategy officer, said the lawsuit comes after partnership talks between the companies ended without a renewed agreement. According to Johnson, American Airlines ( AAL ) delayed its claim when it was in talks with JetBlue ( JBLU ).

"Although we proposed a very attractive proposition to JetBlue ( JBLU ) and its customers and team, it became clear over time that JetBlue ( JBLU ) was focused on different business priorities," said Johnson.

JetBlue Airways ( JBLU ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

JetBlue ( JBLU ) stock was rising nearly 5% in premarket activity, while American Airlines ( AAL ) was up fractionally.
