NEW YORK (Reuters) - American Eagle Outfitters ( AEO ) sued Amazon.com ( AMZN ) on Wednesday, accusing it of infringing the clothing and accessories retailer's "Aerie" and "Offline by Aerie" trademarks in sponsored advertisements and search responses.
In a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court, American Eagle said Amazon ( AMZN ) intentionally used the Aerie marks without permission "to deceive consumers into believing Aerie products were available on Amazon ( AMZN ), drive traffic to its platform, and sell competing merchandise."
The lawsuit seeks a halt to further infringements, triple and punitive damages, and other remedies.
