11:22 AM EDT, 07/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- American Shared Hospital Services ( AMS ) said Tuesday it has signed an agreement with Hospital San Javier to set up a Mexican joint venture to treat public and private cancer patients.

The company said it will hold a 70% stake in the venture and Hospital San Javier the balance. The venture will be upgrading Hospital San Javier's Gamma Knife Perfexion system to an Esprit, Elekta's newest Gamma Knife radiosurgery system.

Gamma Knife radiosurgery is a gentler alternative to open surgery and conventional radiotherapy, the firm said.
