04:37 AM EDT, 07/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- American Airlines Group ( AAL ) , United Airlines (UAL), Delta Airlines (DAL) and Allegiant Airlines (ALGT) have issued grounding orders for all of their US flights due to apparent communications issues early Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
According to the advisories posted on the FAA website by the Air Traffic Control System Command Center, communication issues impacted all airports and all the airlines' flights regardless of destination.
The grounding comes after Microsoft (MSFT) resolved its cloud services outage that affected several low-cost carriers, including Frontier Airlines, media outlets reported Friday. It was not immediately clear whether the grounding was related to the Microsoft outage, the reports said.
It is also unclear how long the ground stop will last but the FAA is expected to provide an update by 5 am ET, according to a report by CNN Business.
