05:25 PM EST, 11/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- American Water Works ( AWK ) unit Illinois American Water said Wednesday it has closed the $8.4 million acquisition of the Metro East Sanitary District wastewater system in Metro East area near St. Louis.

The acquisition adds the Eagle Park and Lansdowne wastewater systems and 5,600 new customers to Illinois American Water's portfolio.

The Illinois Commerce Commission approved the deal on Nov. 7, the company said.

The company said customers will receive combined water and wastewater bills from Illinois American Water in November-December billing cycles.
