American Water Works Prepared to Comply with EPA's New National Drinking Water Standards
Apr 10, 2024 10:31 AM

01:08 PM EDT, 04/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- American Water Works ( AWK ) said Wednesday it is ready to meet the US Environmental Protection Agency's final rule on national drinking water standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS.

The EPA said Wednesday that the final rule for the substances, exposure to which has been linked to cancers, will "prevent thousands of deaths, and reduce tens of thousands of serious illnesses."

American Water said it has been treating PFAS in drinking water across its footprint in the country.

"While we are assessing any changes from the proposed rule to the final rule, we have been preparing for full compliance, from capital planning to engineering to water quality," said American Water President and Chief Executive M. Susan Hardwick.
