05:48 PM EDT, 08/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amerigo Resources ( ARREF ) announced after-hours on Wednesday an update on a suspension of operations at the Minera Valle Central operation in Rancagua, Chile.
The company announced that during the evening of July 31, 2025, a "seismic event" triggered a rockfall at the EL Teniente underground mine, which is owned by Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile (Codelco) but provides fresh tailings to Minera Valle Central.
The collapse trapped several mine workers, leading to Codelco suspending operations at the mine to commence a search and rescue. The rockfall led to the death of six workers. The rescue mission concluded on August 3, and Chile's president has declared three days of national mourning.
"Until El Teniente resumes operations, MVC will focus on processing historic tailings," Wednesday's statement said. "The impact on the company's annual production guidance cannot be quantified at this stage, but will depend on how long mining operations at El Teniente remain suspended. Currently, the daily loss of copper production at MVC is estimated at 100,000 pounds per day."
Amerigo shares fell 1.83% on Wednesday.
