01:37 PM EDT, 05/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Aon (AON) is facing a complaint by the American Civil Liberties Union that alleges the company's online hiring tools carry a risk of discriminating against job seekers based on race and disability, the ACLU said Thursday.
The complaint has been submitted to the Federal Trade Commission, alleging that two Aon offerings, a personality evaluation test, and an automated video interviewing tool, are promoted as being less biased than conventional applicant evaluation techniques. However, similar to many products on the market, these tools measure broad personality characteristics that have no bearing on job performance and are closely associated with fundamental elements of the medical knowledge surrounding autism and mental health issues, according to the ACLU.
Aon also markets another product called gridChallenge, a game-like test for cognitive abilities. Such tests have been found to put black applicants and other candidates of color at a disadvantage, and may also unjustly omit people due to disabilities, the ACLU added.
The ACLU has requested the FTC to investigate Aon's practices, issue an injunction, and provide other relief to those affected.
Aon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
