Apple Allows Developers on EU Storefront to Redirect Users to External Channels
Aug 8, 2024 10:39 AM

01:27 PM EDT, 08/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) announced changes for applications in EU storefronts of the company's app store to meet the bloc's regulations, including allowing developers to redirect users to make purchases outside of their app.

The destination might be an alternative app marketplace, another app or a website, the company said Thursday in a statement. It can be accessed outside the app or via a web view that appears in the app and may show within the app itself how much a subscription would cost both within and outside the app, Apple ( AAPL ) said.

The European Commission said in June the company's app store rules were in breach of the Digital Markets Act, preventing developers from steering consumers freely to alternative channels for offers and content.

Apple ( AAPL ) shares rose 1.9% in recent trading Thursday.
