07:48 AM EST, 01/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) and Amazon.com ( AMZN ) have fended off a class action lawsuit in the UK after the country's Competition Appeal Tribunal refused to certify the legal action filed by Christine Riefa that alleged the companies colluded in 2018, according to a Tuesday statement from the Tribunal.
In the lawsuit, Riefa claimed that over 36 million consumers suffered losses after Apple ( AAPL ) and Amazon ( AMZN ) reached an agreement in 2018 that led to a significant reduction in the number of Apple ( AAPL ) products' resellers and higher prices of Apple ( AAPL ) products on the Amazon UK Marketplace.
According to Riefa, the estimated loss of the proposed class members who purchased Apple ( AAPL ) products during the alleged collusion period is 494 million pounds ($603.2 million).
However, the tribunal found that Riefa did not meet the authorization condition as the proposed class representative after failing to demonstrate "sufficient independence or robustness so as to act fairly and adequately in the interests of the class."
Apple ( AAPL ) and Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
