Apple Launches New iPad Pro, iPad Air Tablets
May 7, 2024 12:52 PM

03:14 PM EDT, 05/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) on Tuesday unveiled its latest tablets, including the iPad Pro with its new M4 chip.

The technology giant said the iPad Pro is available in an 11-inch model and a 13-inch model. It is the "thinnest Apple ( AAPL ) product ever," according to a statement.

The iPad Pro has Ultra Retina XDR display and supports the new Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard devices, said John Ternus, Apple's ( AAPL ) senior vice president of hardware engineering. The 11-inch model starts at $999 in the US, while the 13-inch variant starts at $1,299, the company said.

Apple ( AAPL ) also announced a new 11- and 13-inch iPad Air with its M2 chip. The 11-inch model starts at $599, while the 13-inch variant starts at $799. The company said the new Apple Pencil Pro now supports the Find My feature, helping users locate the stylus if misplaced.

The new iPads and devices are available to order immediately, with availability starting May 15, the company said.

Last week, Apple ( AAPL ) logged a surprise gain in its fiscal second-quarter earnings despite a slowdown in iPhone sales. IPad revenue fell to $5.56 billion for the quarter from $6.67 billion a year earlier.

The company said Tuesday the M4 chip has its fastest neural engine ever, allowing it to process up to 38 trillion operations per second.

"We believe ultimately Apple ( AAPL ) is continuing to build out its own AI ecosystem within its iOS developer community," Wedbush Securities analysts, including Daniel Ives, said in a note.

The company is expected to unveil its AI strategy at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, the analysts said. "We believe the AI strategy at Apple ( AAPL ) will consist of an AI App Store that will be the foundational starting point for developers and AI apps over the coming years tapping into the 2.2 billion iOS devices worldwide along with an iPhone 16 model that will break new ground in AI and begin this next supercycle at Apple ( AAPL )."
